Headlines

For the past three months my front desk friends and I have taken part in a piece by conceptual artist, Tino Sehgal. The piece is called This is New and was somewhat "performed" when visitors purchased tickets. The instructions we were verbally given (Tino doesn't like things in writing) are as follows:

Step 1: business as usual, collect the money, print the ticket. Step 2: As you pass the ticket to the visitor say a news headline from the current day. Step 3: If they walk away, the interaction is over. If they say "what?" repeat the headline and add "This is New, Tino Sehgal 2003". If they ask about the content of the headline you may discuss it however you see fit.

My ICA friends and I saw this experience as somewhat of an annoying challenge. We did not ask to do this. We were "persuaded" to participate. It has been the source of both laughter and complaints...at times even outrage. We can now breathe a little easier since the show is no longer here. On a positive note, it was a good excuse to browse CNN and the New York Times in the morning. In any case we have endured. Below is a list of headlines I have stated.

“Michelle Obama Touts Husband”
“Blogtalk: S.C. and Florida”

Old Camera, New Camera

It's sad to say it but my first digital camera has bit the dust. I was in denial for a short while...but over the past few days I have found the strength to move on. I have ordered a sleek and shiny new 7.1 mp Canon. It should be arriving some time tomorrow. This will be quite an upgrade from my 3.2 mp. With this new arrival I remember my dear old friend. It was there with me in good times and bad. It has seen multiple dorm rooms, family gatherings and parties. It has perched upon Roman bridges and rested upon a stony beach of Collioure. It has even captured a distant Barack Obama within a few pixels. My old friend has been good to me. The memories remain.
