I want to thank everyone who came to our show on Friday night. Your support means a lot to us. I'm sorry I couldn't be there. I hear it was a blast with a jumping photo shoot in the back!

So Kristen and I are now getting last minute items before we leave. I'm off a little early for my sister's wedding in Key West from the 28th-1st. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the polydactyl (seven-toed) cats at the Hemingway house.

I found this lithograph while lost in the depths of the Internet. It caught my eye. Maybe it was the rainbow, which did the catching, but I am posting this image now because of the figure. The oddly shaped arms and legs are stretching up in the air as if the creature has just woken from sleep and it about to tumble out of bed into it's strange, magical, wonderland of a bedroom.

An Advertisment from National Geographic April 1964

Retro National Geographics

My late great Grandma Bea collected decades of National Geographics. I'm so glad that I am now in possession of them. Each one is like a time capsule. Pictured above: the back of Feb. 1958, the covers of April and March 1964. One tells the story of Capt. Jacques-Yves Cousteau in his yellow underwater villa. Another holds two very poignant articles: "How We Plan to Put Men on the Moon" and "John F. Kennedy: The Last Full Measure (a tribute and story about the funeral)." Every time I pick one up I feel a mixture of fascination and laughter. They are gems.

Four Years In the Making

Shelby and Kristen met during the fall of 2003 while living in Mellen dorm house on Lesley campus and attending The Art Institute of Boston together. The girls became quick friends and started collaborating on art projects. One late night during that first semester in Mellen house, the plan, to go on an adventure to Europe, began to develop. That night after much excitement, both girls vowed that they would, without a doubt, travel to Europe during the summer of 2007.
Countless nights over the last four and a half years were spent planning the trip. Destinations, clothing choices, toiletries, cameras, ticket prices, and travel dates were listed neatly over and over in the girls' moleskin notebooks. During the summer of 2006 Shelby came to Denver, CO for a printmaking internship and to spend time with Kristen and Mark Sink. During her time in Denver, Kristen and Shelby invested in backpacks and sleeping bags.
It is now a month before the trip and they are almost ready to go with their tickets and passports in hand. Shelby and Kristen will meet in New York City. Shelby will be flying from Key West where her sister will be getting married (congratulations to Ashley and Matt.) Kristen will be flying from Denver, CO where she is spending time with her family and friends. The girls will be staying with Kristen's Great Aunt Karen and Lynn in Manhattan for two nights before flying to Paris. (To be continued)

Rethinking Retail: the reusable shopping bag

Not long ago, my boyfriend and I were grocery shopping as young modern couples do. We noticed a rack of hunter green bags at check out. I had heard about reusable grocery bags! Now our local grocery store, Shaws, was making them. This was our chance, how exciting, to help save the environment: one less plastic or paper at a time. Fast forward to yesterday. I was craving breakfast burritos so I picked up my purse, keys, and cardigan, and headed out the door. As soon as I arrived at the store I had a feeling of disappointment. I forgot the bags at home! Luckily I had a chance to repair my reusable bag karma today when I needed milk, ramen, and maple syrup. Pheww! I remembered to bring them. I guess with these changing times we need to change our routine as well. Hunter green Shaws bag: never leave home without it.
