Lemon Blueberrry Tart

After peeling so many lemons for limoncello, the girls were left with a pile of ravished and skinned lemons. For thirty-six hours they were left neglected in a bowl. Kristen was determined to juice the lemon's and somehow bring puropose to the parishing fruits.
Yesterday she made this lovely lemon blueberry tart.

Design Life Now: National Design Triennial

ICA Boston, West Gallery September 28th 2007 - January 6th 2007

After weeks of sneaking a peek behind the construction curtains at work, my coworkers and I get to enjoy this amazing experience: an exciting new show. 81 Artists/Designers are featured with displays of some of the best American design made in the last three years. Micheal Meredith's thick walls of "cubbies" showcase architectural models, dresses, furniture, toys, graphic design and a submarine of sorts!

One of my favorite pieces is Charlie Lazor's conception of Up! House, a company that makes prefabricated homes that you can order online. You finish some design choices when ordering and they deliver it to your plot of land. It's like ordering a car.

A Treat for Some Bookmaking Friends

Kristen and Shelby spent Tuesday cooking together in Shelby's new amazing kitchen. They made yummy plum cake in muffin size portions. Kristen packaged the individual cakes and the recipe in little hand made boxes to give to her bookmaking classmates and teacher. Yes, this did fulfill an assignment!

Kristen was inspired by Anthony Bourdain and his travels to Tuscany where he learned how to make homemade pasta. With little warning to Shelby Kristen poured out a pile of flour and then made a pool of two eggs, mixed, kneaded, and roled out the dough. After much folding and rolling voila ...homemade pasta..... sadly it was a little chewy. Kristen has not given up yet. She will try again soon with some knew pasta making knowledge.

Limoncello

Inspired by some tasty limoncello the girls experienced in Roma, Shelby and Kristen have began the process of making their own from scratch. During a recent evening the two enthusiastic girls peeled fifteen lemons and then added the peel to a half a gallon of vodka.
After a few months of ageing the concoction will be ready for Sugar syrup and then, yes, another few months of ageing! It will be worth it when the time come to taste the heavenly liquor.

Working at the ICA

My job has two main roles. I protect the art by asking visitors to, "please step behind the black line." I also answer questions about the art and the facilities. My fellow VA's are really interesting, wonderful, likable people. At times visitors are confused by our presence. One day while watching The Cell (Louis Bourgeois), a woman came up to me and said, "When I came in here I saw you standing and thought: is she some sort of living art thing?" I laughed and said we're all living art.

Bees

My family and I sat under the trees.
We were just enjoying the breeze,
Then we saw all the bees.
Everyone wanted to flee.
They were all scared, but me.

I liked those bees up in the trees.
Yellow and black fuzz they looked so free.
They buzzed and they bizzed.
Then one landed on my nose,
And ones on my toes.

They liked me yes; yes they did but not more than a daisy.
I had a yellow and orange striped shirt on, don’t call me crazy.
I stood real still not to scare them away.
After that I came to visit them every day.
They gave me honey to eat.
In was so sweet.
I must confess.
It was such a mess.
